Grade 1 Universal Design for Learning

Page history last edited by Sharon Morgan 1 year, 4 months ago

The framework table below includes ideas on how to customize and adjust a 1st Grade lesson that focuses on discriminating between fiction and nonfiction genres. The lesson includes the objective 1.2.R.2. Instruction includes reading a fiction and nonfiction book about animals. After reading both books students will participate in brainstorming how they can tell which book is real information and which is make believe. The teacher will explicitly teach the vocabulary terms fiction and nonfiction. Various activities over the two day lesson will enforce the concept of recognizing the characteristics of fiction and nonfiction books. As the teacher prepared the lesson, the framework below guided their planning and helped ensure all students would have access and be able to participate in a meaningful, challenging learning opportunity.
