  • Model making inferences about text based on vocabulary words. Readworks.org provides FREE articles on a variety of topics and interests and at multiple reading abilities and Lexile levels.
  • Guide students in analyzing word parts to determine the meaning.
  • Monitor correct usage of the print or digital dictionary, glossary or thesaurus.
  • Explain meanings of Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes.

Deeper

Acquisition 

  • Provide opportunities for students to use word parts to define increasingly complex words.
