Teacher Insights
|
|
-
Mechanics refers to standard conventions of English such as spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
-
Punctuation marks include the basic commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, colons and semi-colons, but should also include more stylistic punctuation such as dashes, ellipses, brackets, etc.
-
Grammar refers to the rules of language.
-
Using model sentences to teach conventions can be effective, as opposed to teaching mechanics solely through correcting poor sentences.
|
Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
