Plagiarism

  • Students will use quotes they take directly from the text to use as evidence. They will need guidance in introducing quotes, embedding quotes, and the different ways of including proper citation.

  • Students should integrate quotations seamlessly into writing.

    • Example of strategies to effectively integrate quotes: TLQ

  • Paraphrasing and summarizing are different.

    • Paraphrasing-to sum something up or clarify a statement by rephrasing it; to say something in other simpler words.

    • Summarization-reducing large selections of text to their base essentials: the gist, the key ideas, the main points that are worth noting and remembering.

  • Plagiarism- using another person or source’s words or ideas without giving credit or obtaining permission.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
