Students will apply knowledge of grammar and rhetorical style to reading and writing. 

 

READING: Students will apply knowledge of grammar and rhetorical style to analyze and evaluate a variety of texts.

11.5.R.1 Students will apply their knowledge of grammar and rhetorical style to analyze and evaluate a variety of texts, understanding that usage and convention change over time and using that understanding to manipulate style when appropriate.

  • Teachers model strategies that lead to in-depth rhetorical analysis.

  • Teachers will provide students opportunity to receive feedback on their rhetorical analyses.

  • Students must read texts with complex language and style to evaluate the impact of the author’s rhetoric.

  • Students must be able to identify elements of grammar or style that particularly stand out in a text and discuss the impact of those elements.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
