  • A multimodal text combines two or more variations of communication through either linguistic, visual, audio, gestural, or spatial means.

    • Examples of multimodal texts include picture books, web pages with audio or video, or live performances.

  • When helping students decide on what media to use, the following may be considered:

    • Ease of Use: Does the student know how to use the format already? How much time will it take to learn to use?

    • Time: Time involved in creating this type of media (creating a movie vs. a quick Popplet)

    • Audience: Knowing and thinking about what will appeal to your audience. Having a discussion about the different choices and analyzing what the best choice may be for whom they may want to appeal.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
