  • Teachers model synthesizing information to create a report using Write Aloud strategies, and provide opportunities for students to synthesize their information to create a report.

  • Teachers monitor and provide opportunities for students to present information in a report either orally or in writing and receive feedback.

    • Using Rubrics and project expectations at the beginning of both shorter and longer research projects will give students an understanding of what their end product should look like.

  • A research report mandates that students work through the research process for a final written product. A report can mean a traditional paper, but it could also be presented in a poster, pamphlet, presentation, etc.

  • While typical research papers involve supporting an opinion or a claim, reports, no matter how they are presented, must represent an objective summary of the most relevant information gathered according to teacher-directed guidelines.

  • Informational writing in response to text is the grade level instructional focus.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
