2.6.R.3 Students will consult various visual and text reference sources to gather information.

Students will engage in shared reading activities about informational topics. Students will read informational books about various topics. Students will work with a teacher, librarian, or classmate to a find an informational book about a topic of interest.	Teachers explain and model how to use visual and text reference sources to discover information. Teachers provide opportunities for students to locate information from visual and text reference sources.
Supporting Resources	Teacher Insights
K-W-L Chart (PDF)	Visual reference sources include photographs and videos. Text reference sources include informational books, encyclopedias, newspaper articles, etc. Many reference sources for this age include a combination of visual and text (e.g., maps, atlas, picture book with words, etc.)

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
