Standard 2: Reading and Writing Process
Students will use a variety of recursive reading and writing processes.

WRITING: Students will develop and strengthen writing by engaging in a recursive process that includes prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
2.2.W.4 Students will use resources to find correct spellings of words (e.g., word wall, vocabulary notebook, dictionaries).

Students will look up correct spellings of words in resources (e.g.. Word wall, word study notebooks, dictionaries).	Teachers provide a sample first draft with several misspellings. Teachers demonstrate how to use resources to find correct spellings of words. Teachers provide opportunities for students to practice this skill in groups or alone. Teachers monitor and provide opportunities for students to receive feedback as students use resources to find correct spellings.

Reading Rockets: Using Word Walls(website) How to Use a Dictionary Video (video)	Resources to check spelling should be embedded in everyday routines in the classroom. Word Walls help students have quick access to content and grade level words. Students need exposure to a variety of resources to find correct spellings of words, not limited to dictionary use only. Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
