Teacher Actions

Strategies That Promote Comprehension (PDF)
  • The intention of this standard is for students to acknowledge connections between topics and sources. At this level, students determine what sources provide relevant information.

    • These skills and strategies must be explicitly taught; not all students do this naturally.

  • Students can learn about a topic of interest through a variety of sources such as credible books, websites, videos, magazines, people, etc.

    • Performing a think-aloud with a resource will allow students to understand how it answers questions about the topic.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
