OKELA Frameworks: Argumentative Writing Literacy Progression (webpage)
|
-
Opinion writing is writing where students state their opinion about a topic.
-
Opinion writing is new to first grade.
-
Teacher guidance and support is expected throughout first grade.
-
Topics can be simple. At minimum, students need to provide one reason to support their opinion. For example, a topic could be superheroes. A student could write, “I think Superman is the best superhero because he can fly.”
-
Shared writing provides medium to heavy teacher support which would be beneficial for students to see how to organize and write opinion writing.
-
To be successful with this standard, students must understand the difference between fact and opinion.
|
Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
