Grade-appropriate, highly-decodable words are words that follow the spelling and syllable patterns that have been taught in first grade.

Common irregularly-spelled sight words are level one sight words (e.g., Dolch or Fry Word Lists) that have been taught in kindergarten and first grade.
- Word Walls in a classroom will help students have quick access to grade level words.
