Handwriting Development - Sizing, Spacing, Alignment & More(website) |
-
Directionality in the English language is based on top to bottom, left to right orientation.
-
Calling attention to directionality when modeling writing or reading aloud can help students get a firm understanding of the concept.
-
Teach students to place a finger, crayon, popsicle stick, etc, between words to achieve proper spacing between words.
-
Young children should be encouraged to use invented spelling when spelling and conventions are not a factor, so they are comfortable taking risks with their writing.
- Writing conferences with your students to point out good aspects of their handwriting, then focus on one thing to improve using positive language.
|
Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
