Standard 2: Reading and Writing Process

Students will use a variety of recursive reading and writing processes.

 

WRITING: Students will develop and strengthen writing by engaging in a recursive process that includes prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. 
K.2.W.2 Students will begin to develop first drafts by sequencing the action or details of stories/texts.

  • Students will put events or details from a text in order to begin creating a first writing draft. 

 

 

 

 

  • Teachers will read aloud a fiction story.  

  • Teachers will lead the class in a shared writing experience to retell the story, paying close attention to the sequence of events.

  • Teachers provide opportunities for students to begin creating a first writing draft by putting events or details in order.

  • Teachers monitor and provide opportunities for students to receive feedback as students are writing first drafts by putting events or details in order.

  • Story maps are visual representations to help students sequence events in a story.

  • Drawings can be used by students to plan, organize, and sequence their writing by creating a picture for each event. For example, beginning, middle, and the end would have three pictures.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
