Strategies That Promote Comprehension (PDF)

  • The intention of this standard is for students to acknowledge connections between topics and sources. At this level, students begin to recognize with support that information can be gained from a variety of sources.
  • Sources of information that students use can be simple, such as maps, picture graphs, calendars, books, websites, etc.
  • The term text is not only referring to the written word. A text is any form information can be obtained, including written, audio, and video.

Due to recursive nature of the standards, it is essential that teachers are aware of how all objectives within and between strands work together for optimal instruction.
