Standard 2: Reading and Writing Process

Students will use a variety of recursive reading and writing processes.

Reading

Students will read and comprehend increasingly complex literary and informational texts.

Writing

Students will develop and strengthen writing by engaging in a recursive process that includes prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.

PK.2.R Students will begin to retell or re-enact major events from a read aloud with guidance and support to recognize the main idea.

With guidance and support:

  • Students will begin to restate or dramatize a familiar story, putting key details in sequential order.

  • Teachers lead students in putting stories in chronological order using transitional words (beginning, middle, end).

  • Teachers model how to act out portions of stories (with or without props).

  • Teachers monitor and provide opportunities for students to receive feedback about student’s writing.

  • Students will begin to communicate thoughts and opinions through emergent writing.
